NGD: Post-Midlife Crisis Flying V Content

happy birthday history GIF

She's a beauty man!

Well, you ain't hiding in the background and supporting anything with this guitar. A V should really
be a ^ .... because that is the EQ on them. Very spiky. Very mid forward.

I Am Here Hello GIF by BET Plus

Yes you are, Mr. Flying V.

This is probably why they make such great lead guitars and such a natural
fit with a Wah. Yeah, you Mr. King and Mr. Schenker. :chef

I don't normally want a PU change right out of the gate, but I do think I am
going to chase after something a little warmer than an high output ceramic
based PU. Might even do some Seth Lovers. :crazy

We'll see. I have some Nickel covered PUs in the stash and gonna see what
I can come up with.

Hell fun and comfortable to play, for sure. :rawk

Yup. Too old. No sexy here. Not even a Flying V can change that. :idk

I have been chasing the V Unicorn for many years. From Albert King to
Hammett and Hetfield, to Schenker and Rhoads, to Richie Faulkner, I have
been wowed by V-wielding Axeslingers my entire playing life.

Owned a Gibson in the past. Had a Dean Schenker V for an hot minute. And
another Dean V that I never bonded with. After my stellar experience with the
Edwards LPC in 2023 I knew there was only one way to go. Yup.

Hello, Japan! :chef :banana :pickle

Arrived in flawless condition. Been eyeballing these for months and when one would pop up on
Reverb it would be gone in days. I was checking every day, and when I saw this one in the Classic
70s configuration I pulled the trigger immediately.

I may drop some Chrome/Nickel covered Pups in it. I may not. It plays so well. Upper fret access
is :chef Can get my weedly weedly on so easily!

It certainly has that upper mid bark and bite of a V. Not going to bring the heavies as much as
some of my other guitars. But when I want to pretend :rawk it is going to be perfect for that.

The cool thing is it showed up during the week of my Birthday---which is today. I don't do
Cake or Ice Cream.... but I can do some tasty drenched in Vanilla Flying Vs. :banana

So the Pockup Swapper in Recovery is going to swap Pickups in the V. Just has
to happen. I think I have a Bridge Pup in house (Wolfetone Marshallhead) and
am leaning towards a SD '59 in the neck that I also have here.

Still fun going to Reverb and imaging better options that may not be better.

I really want to see this Axe with Nickel Covers. :chef

Squeezing the new Main Squeeze a bunch here. About ready to unveil it to the guys
at practice. Maybe this week.

The best thing about it are the Mids. man, I love the way this guitar slices and dices
through a dense mix. Just sits perfectly, to my ears, anyways. :chef

The LPC just sits so well with the band. The other guys have commented on it often,
so it is kind of my go to when we practice. I'll break out the V eventually.

Gluttony of riches over here, I tell ya! :beer

I’ve never really wanted a V of my own, but lately I’ve been lookin’ at them Solars and wondering if I’d dig it. I’ve played them before, V’s, but more from a “lemme check this out” rather than being a serious purchase question.
