New Cheap Guitar Day!!

Picked up a cheap strat knock off on offerup today for $75

Fired up my goto Shiva patch in the Helix when I got it home and it sounded (and played) like shit.

Swapped in another loaded pick guard I had lying around, adjusted the truss rod, saddles, shimmed the neck, cleaned and oiled the fret board.. new 10's

Now she's somewhat respectful.. nevermind mind the 3/4" of poly on the body, but the neck has a nice satin feel actually.

The plan is to make it a hss. I've never had a "fat strat" so I figured this is a good start. The bridge is shit too.. so I plan on keeping it dive bomb only.. possibly a piezo bridge down the road.

Also needs a proper fret level and crown which I'll knock out this weekend... which also makes me think this might prime pickins for my first diy stainless fret swap before long.. hmmmm.

So much room for activities

It said TOKIO on the headstock, but a magic eraser made it go away

I really like the natural wood finish on the body, but confess, I have to agree with Eagle. 🤔

because I'm going through a divorce and I need something to keep my brain occupied so I don't have a mental breakdown

Damn, sorry to hear that Brother. :(

My Buddy bought a cheap Strat for $60 off of FB Marketplace this
past winter. Tore it down. Refinished it. I gave him a new neck for it.
Man, it plays reasonably well, and he did a great job on it. Like you,
he needed something to keep his hands and mind busy and distracted
on something productive. He also said it is a great platform for practicing
some DIY Luthier skills.

I hope it is Good Medicine for you! :hugitout

Thanks guys, I do appreciate it.

It was a total blindside I was not expecting. I was in it for life... it's been a rough year so far
:Boo

Fucking fuck! :brick

Man, I have some parts laying around that I will never use. They are yours
if you want them. Pretty sure I have an HSS Guard and a Humbucker I can
send your way. I know firsthand (through a similar experience as your own)
that it is the kindness and generosity of other people that can keep our ship
afloat in rough waters, and gift us with a little wind in our sails.

Thats exactly the plan. This guitar is for learning/practice. Tinkering keeps my mind off the negative crap.

I have a '95 LP std that needs a refret so I'll try it on this guy first..

And PM replied.

This place and it's members are truly great. So glad TOP kicked all you asshats out or this place would've never existed and then where would we be?

Damn dude sorry to hear!

It's never fun, even if you were the one making the decision to call it. Hang in there, you'll get through it.

Fret level, crown and polish.
I did a "fall away" after the 15th fret and the action is ridiculous now. It punches waaaay above its weight class. Plays just as nice as my mim strat :guiness

@la szum I found some string trees hiding in my parts bin :beer

And current pic.. even tho it looks the same. It's missing screws in the pickguard because the current one doesn't line up with what was there. I'll plug and drill new spots when I settle on a pickup layout
