Helix 3.8 when?

Someone posted this in an FB group... From the trend of the last few years, you'd think it would have dropped by now... tick tock Line 6... tick tock...

I actually mentioned that here. And we've been told nothing should be expected until late summer.

Being so long since the last update, and the fact that it will be smaller than 3.70, leads to the obvious question: what are they up to? 🤔🤔

Total speculation, but one thing to consider is the volatility in the software engineering market right now.

As far as I can find Yamaha and L6 don’t have any DSP engineering positions open…so they are either fully staffed or in belt tightening mode like many businesses.

Because I keep daydreaming of doing development at L6, I’ve noticed they had positions they seemed to keep open seemingly indefinitely for a long time. They aren’t on the site any more.

I know my team and almost everyone I know in software is being forced to do more with less.

Again, just speculation.

There's a lot of software engineers out of a job right now so it's also possible they have gotten a ton of applications and just removed the open jobs because they're flooded with them. DSP programmers are a specific niche where I expect anyone who is good at it is already employed. But that doesn't mean they don't need e.g UI engineers, control software programmers etc where DSP domain knowledge is not needed.

Plus afaik the pay in the music industry is worse than most other sectors.

Anyway, I don't think Line6 is or will ever "pause" product development.

My bet is that they're currently focusing on other future products (I don't mean a Helix 2, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were working on a new Helix family device), as Helix software doesn't need much more as of today to keep selling.

Line 6 looks like the added though , in a recent post about new amps DI said they are probably at Ben,Sam or Ryan’s house .
Before I think they only had Ben and Sam

I’m seeing the opposite. Companies are dying for programmers and losing big because they can’t find people to fill those positions. Yes, recently a lot lot lot lot of companies have gotten rid of “developers” who neither would or could program, and the culture is drastically shifting from people making TikTok videos about how they do nothing for work, head to the coffee bar at noon before starting “work” then to the game room then to the sleep pod, then to the salad bar, but the real programming jobs are as desperate to fill as ever.

Yup, same over here (Austria). IT personnel, no matter if sys admin, UI/UX designer, or programmer, are highly sought after, and well paid.

I'm gonna have to send my resume to those countries XD In Spain there are job offers but last time I was seeking for job (last year), most offers were for senior positions, or junior/mid salary but demanding senior or near-senior skills (very common here).

I think this is part of the 18th century mindset that can really put a damper on things both for the employee and the employer.

Yes, experience is important, but the real money and utility in programming is much more like the music industry. Nobody cares how long you've been a band, but instead, how many records have you sold?

The Beatles weren't cool because they had been around for 30 years, nor metallica.

Justin Frankel wasn't a junior or senior anything, he just made code people wanted to use

Does this actually happen? I've never experienced it.
Yeah there is/was a for sure bug with expression behavior settings I keep running into and I've had several snapshots and command assignments get screwed up after backup/restore/update procedures. Has been getting better for me as of late.

Reinhold Bogner ?? no he is more like the Ganga amp Guru
HAHA... I didn't know it was Bogner!! You only said Rheinhold... I had no clue he had a part in Line 6... Although, now I recall the Line 6 Bogner collab stuff from long ago... a certain Spider model had a 'Bogner designed' badge or something like that.

He did the DT50 25 and also the spider valve power amp and the Alchemy ???
I joke that he still works w then because I really want a freaking XTC blue / Red but he has not done anything w them in a while likely

Is there an Uberschall model?

For me the Vitriol and the 2203 made the Helix almost complete, I agree, a decent Mark model and I'm done.
"Mark IV Pres Pull" or just pair the Lead preamp with the Rhythm 1 power amp, zero work, all the benefit.
The FAT switch of the tonestack is very important too, Line 6 has that switch on many other amps, why they skipped it on the MK IV... nobody knows.
The Mark IV models of both the Helix and FM3 are great at doing the big stadium thing.

Line 6 should offer more Dumble clone models like Fractal Audio. That's the reason I bought an FM3, lots of Dumble and Dumble clone models. That saves me a lot of money vs buying more unneeded amps.

They have a few
The Gramattico has one
The litigator is one
If they are low on anything vintage amps are not it IMO

Sweet… at least there’s a Mark IV model to keep my Mesa hunger at bay… Although would still be overjoyed with a IIC+ model…
