Dickie Betts has died * R.I.P.

RIP, Dickie.

My best friend was playing drums for this young blues kid from Canada as a hired gun, they opened for Dickie for a few months and when they got to our area I took a few days off to join my buddy “on tour”. I think I was out for 3-4 days and met Dickie for about 2.3 seconds before a show one night. That dude didn’t leave the bus for anything but the gig and then he was back on immediately.

Andy Aledort was his guitarist on that tour and that dude is AWESOME. Introduced himself to me like I was somebody and I was basically cooler/beer tech for those shows. He extended his hand and said “Hey, I’m Andy” and I said “I know! I am, too! I’ve been learning from your tabs and editorials since I started playing!”

Edit- Stupid of me to leave out the fact I got to see Dickie play several nights in a row with some great musicians. I seem to recall him playing through Fenders, but those particular years are my fuzzy years.

Mr. Betts has left us at the age of 80. He will be missed !!

RIP sir...
Big fan since 1969. A very jazzy blues player for sure, and a very big hit in NYC. The Allmans would sell out the Beacon Theatre for weeks at a time. Nothing like the experience.

It just so happens I'm working on a another sad tribute song, 50-50 whether I'll ever finish it. Miss ya Dickey!
